Official Egyptian figures revealed on Monday that the annual inflation rate for February dropped to nearly half, reaching 12.5% compared to 23.2% in January.
The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced in a statement on Monday that the overall Consumer Price Index for the entire country registered 246.8 points for February 2025, reflecting an annual inflation rate of 12.5%, compared to 23% for January 2025.
The report attributed this decrease to factors such as a drop in vegetable prices and certain goods.
The annual inflation rate for consumer prices in urban areas is the main inflation indicator in Egypt.
The annual inflation rate in Egypt fell to 23.4% in December 2024, down from 25% in November.
Inflation reached a record high of 36% in February 2024, according to data from the Egyptian Statistical Center, before starting its gradual decline following the devaluation of the exchange rate in March 2024 (when the exchange rate was 50 pounds per dollar, compared to 31 pounds before the devaluation), leading up to the prices recorded in December.
